History
The costume-style you see on our website
is known as the Volendam style and has become sort of a representative
of the Dutch national costume, although Holland doesn't really have one
single national costume.
It does, however, have a rich variety of traditional regional costumes.
The traditional costume is hardly ever worn anymore, except for in a few
places in Zeeland, the north-eastern edge of the Veluwe and in Volendam
and Marken.
The most famous part of the Dutch costume are the wooden shoes, called
klompen in Dutch.
Not too long ago they were approved (CE) for industrial use by European
Community regulations, something Dutch farmers had known for centuries
of course !
Wooden shoes are therefore not only abundant in souvenir shops, but are
also worn by many farmers, bulb growers, road repairmen, factory workers
and artisans as cheap, long-lasting, very comfortable and most of all
: safe working shoes.
Delft Blue, or the correct Dutch name Delfts Blauw, is known worldwide
for centuries now.
Very fine, richly decorated but all hand painted porcelain, in the typical
and traditional blue colour,
has made the famous Delft Blue favourable collector items throughout the
world.
The collection Delft Blue showed on this site, has been selected because
of its very fine quality of porcelain, and the beautiful hand painted
or hand decorated figures. All these items are worth collecting, for decoration
or actual use.
After many requests we do offer original handpainted replica's of famous
Dutch Masters like Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Springer. New artists painting
in the tradition of the old Masters from long ago. Even custom made paintings
are possible.
We hope you enjoyed visiting our site
Greetings from Holland.
